Decorative Flags & Banners

Decorative flags are an increasingly popular element of home landscaping and exterior decorating.

Flags are displayed to celebrate religious or secular holidays, mark the change of seasons, announce a birth, make a political statement, support a sports team, honor the family pet, or just for fun and decoration.

NIFDA members offer a wide selection of decorative flags and banners. Whether you want to express your personality or your politics there's sure to be a flag that's right for the purpose and the occasion.

Visit a NIFDA member or call to request a catalog of decorative flags.

Flags - More Than Just Cloth

Vexillology is the study of flags, the symbolism they incorporate, and the history behind them. The word comes from "vexillum," a cloth flag carried by Roman cavalry.

Most people know at least some of the vexillology of the United States flag. They know the 50 stars represent the states and that the 13 stripes represent the 13 British colonies that won independence and became the first states. Relatively few people know what the colors red, white, and blue -- which convey the spiritual significance of the flag -- represent.

They know Betsy Ross is credited with making the first flag reflecting the basic design that exists to this day. They may not know there's little historic evidence to support this story.

NIFDA members are vexillological experts, and most are more than pleased to share their knowledge of the U.S. flag and other national flags with schools, service clubs, and other community organizations.

For authoritative flag information call NIFDA or a NIFDA member in your area.
